Advice for families

What to do when someone passes away abroad

We understand the difficulties when a relative passes away abroad. We will simplify the process, and managing the whole repatriation for you. We provide the best support to help you and your loved one return home by providing a professional and dignified service.

What do I need to do?

The first thing that’s required is to complete our Instruction form, we will then take care of all further aspects of the repatriation until the person who has passed away has reached their final destination.

The official documents we need from you are:

Repatriation Timescale to India

Repatriation to India normally takes up to one week from the body being released/death being registered. We have great experience in expediting the repatriation process and can usually achieve a repatriation within a few days (paperwork depending)- please speak to our team about this. However, if speed isn’t of the essence, we can arrange a repatriation and then hold pending a flight date. Our fees include 90 days mortuary care, although if you speak to us regarding any longer-term requirements, we will be most accommodating.

Terms and Conditions for Repatriation Packages

The package price is valid for a deceased weighing up to 150kg. Weights between 151kg – 200kg may have an additional flight fee – this will quoted to you prior to booking. We will need to re-quote if you decide to use another airline.

The package price is inclusive of our light oak veneer coffin (except where stated otherwise). Changes to this are available. Please be aware that other coffins and caskets will also affect the weight of the shipment and may increase the fee from the airline also.

Additional time required for mortuary care outside our 90 day offer will also be charged a standard daily fee of £5.

We take full responsibility for the care of your loved one from the point of collection to the point of delivery at the port/airport of departure.

To enable us to professionally fulfil our role to the best of our ability, we require an amount of specific authority from the Applicant. I, the applicant, instruct Global Funeral Repatriation of 73 Scrooby Road, Harworth, DN11 8JN to conduct all necessary administrative and practical preparations to enable the efficient repatriation of the deceased (body or ashes). I understand that this may involve attending at the Consulate or Embassy on my behalf in order to obtain the relevant documentation (possibly including a death certificate) to allow for the Repatriation to go ahead. I, the applicant, consent to and instruct Global Funeral Repatriation of 73 Scrooby Road, Harworth, DN11 8JN to fully embalm the deceased as outlined in page one of this document, using a British Institute of Embalmers, Embalmer. I understand the process of embalming and why it is necessary. A certificate of Embalming will be produced by the Embalmer upon completion. Global Funeral Repatriation recommends that the Applicant does not leave the United Kingdom until all required paperwork is in place for the Repatriation to take place. This enables Global Funeral Repatriation to have the ability to contact (via telephone, email and in person), the applicant for any requirements that may arise prior to the departing flight. Some communication may be required at short notice and may carry urgent requests or information- it is therefore paramount that Global Funeral Repatriation are able to contact the applicant via telephone, email and in person with ease until the Repatriation flight departs. Unless otherwise stated or agreed, our Repatriation package includes a simple oak effect coffin (or with Repatriation of Ashes, an oak urn). Global Funeral Repatriation expects that the Applicant will make available all required documents of them at the earliest convenience and with efficiency to enable the Repatriation to take place with the outlined timescale. Our fee quoted includes up to 90 days of mortuary care from the date of which the deceased enters the care of Global Funeral Repatriation. Mortuary care from then is chargeable at £50 per full 7 days thereafter. Where a deceased is in our care for longer than 14 days, Global Funeral Repatriation reserves the right to charge any additional fees relating to changing flight fees. I, the applicant, have the legal right and capacity to authorise Global Funeral Repatriation to Repatriate the deceased as outlined in page one of this document, and fully agree to all details within the whole document.
